Dog lovers are always on the lookout for new movies or books to delve into and enjoy. We are happy to report that there are lots of entertaining movies and books to enjoy this summer. Grab a lemonade, your favorite furry friend, and enjoy these books and movies made for dog lovers just like you!


There are many new dog-themed books hitting the shelves this summer. 

We picked a few of our favorites to get your summer reading list of to a "fur"tastic start!

Travels with Casey is written about the bond that forms between a Labrador and their human companion as they travel the country. Mountain Tails is a book written through the eyes of a dog and revolves around a dog living in Routt County, Colorado. The Pug List is an emotional book that shows the healing powers of a beloved dog, all while a family works through a house-fire and picking up the pieces of their lives. The Dog Lovers Guide is made by National Geographic and helps you to plan out your dog-friendly summer vacation. The book will let you know the best travel places for dogs, as well as lots of photos of the cutest canines!

Netflix offers plenty of choices this summer for the dog-loving movie buff. The movies that Netflix offers are older movies, but they are true classics for a dog lover.

You can't go wrong with these classic titles. Warning- you may need a box of tissue nearby a few of them!

101 Dalmations is a Disney classic that has been a favorite for generations. This is the live action version but still offers all the doggy dalmatian cuteness a dog lover can handle. Hachiko may not be the most known name in dog movies. This move was made in 2010 and stars fan-favorite Richard Gere. This is an emotional story of a dog and human and revolves around a dog that follows his owner to work each day and waits for him to able to come home. Lassie may be one of the best-known dog movie ever made. Netflix offers a newer version of the classic to be watched this summer. This version was released in 2005. It is still the same storyline about everyone’s favorite border collie, just a more updated version. Where the Red Fern Grows is another long-standing favorite movie and book for any dog lover. This is another Disney movie that has been remade for a newer generation, this time in 2003. The classic story that an older generation has loved for decades has just been made a bit more modern for the next generation to love for years to come.

Show Dogs was released in May of 2018, to start off the summer season. It revolves around Max, a Rottweiler police dog, that goes undercover as a show dog with his human partner to prevent disaster from happening. Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero, takes place during World War I. An Army private adopts a stray dog and the pair take off on an adventure that leads them to France and into history. A-X-L is a movie that is about a teenage motorcycle rider who finds a robotic dog. The boy and a friend work to protect the dog from scientists, who are out to get the dog.

There is destined to be a movie or book that even the most devoted dog lover will fall in love with this summer. Enjoy these entertainment choices with your favorite canine this summer and make memories that will last a lifetime!
